Page Four 1960-1980

In 1964 the North Weald goods yard closed marking the decline in the railway being used for goods as well.

Two years on and Blake Hall's and Ongar's goods yard closed marking an end to the goods on the line.

Due to passenger numbers falling and running costs. Blake Hall was closed on Sunday's and a timetable put in place on the 17th of October 1966. That very year the two four car trains running on the line were replaced by Central line 1962 running stock.

In 1969 The Ongar Signal Box closed and control was transfered to North Weald.

In 1970/1 LU tried to close the line. But due to an outrage by local people the line stayed in service, but thing's had to start being more cost affective.

This made locals unhappy but the line had to become more 'cost affective'.

In 1976 The passing loop and the signal box was abandoned .

Then in 1978 the passing loop was removed and the signal box boarded up.
